(ThyBlackMan.com) We are accustomed to a lot of words. In today’s world, unlike the ancient world, we have a surfeit of words flying at us from all directions; from television and radio, from cinemas and the stage, from the press and magazines, from billboards and placards, from the internet and satellites in outer space, and even from locals peddling their goods. All clamouring for our attention, whether they are spoken, […]

(ThyBlackMan.com) Last week our country commemorated the 25th anniversary since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It was a solemn reminder of the real, persistent threat from adversaries who hate America and the freedoms she stands for. We owe an immeasurable debt of gratitude to the brave men and women who proudly serve our country in uniform — military members, law enforcement and first responders. Protecting the United States and its citizens […]

(ThyBlackMan.com) The first settlement offer an insurance adjuster sends is not a starting point for negotiation. It is a closing argument dressed up as generosity. Adjusters send early offers before a victim’s full medical picture is known, before a treating physician has determined the long-term prognosis, and before a South Carolina attorney has calculated the claim’s actual value. Signing that release ends the claim permanently. South Carolina law does not […]

(ThyBlackMan.com) I have watched a lot of famous Black men learn the hard way that fame arrives with a leash attached. Somebody hands you money and a platform, and buried in the fine print sits an expectation that you will now say the approved thing, at the approved hour, in the approved tone. Step outside that box and folks act shocked, like you broke a contract nobody actually showed you. […]

(ThyBlackMan.com) Everybody says they want freedom, but most people really don’t, mainly because they don’t know what true freedom is. And if they did, they would—and do — reject it. “Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom,” Benjamin Franklin wrote, and most people don’t want to be virtuous. Which is why they prefer socialism. Homo sapiens, as a species, is a group of jungle savages who know very little […]

(ThyBlackMan.com) Individualism is a social and political philosophy that places the highest value on the independence, rights, and self-reliance of the single person over the group or state as defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary. It is the core belief that each person should think and act freely rather than depend on others or conform to society. While its core principles of self-reliance also include personal freedom, at what point does individualism go […]

(ThyBlackMan.com) San Jose is the most populous city in the San Francisco Bay Area, and that scale creates a problem families and adult learners know all too well: a great music teacher might be twenty minutes away, but between school pickups, commuter traffic on 87 and 101, and packed evening schedules, those twenty minutes easily balloon into an hour of logistics nobody signed up for. So it’s no surprise that […]

(ThyBlackMan.com) The Trump administration is drafting a rule that would let married couples with a stay-at-home spouse collect federal welfare benefits. The money comes from a 1990s Health and Human Services fund meant to cover daycare so low-income parents could work or go to school. About 870,000 families draw on it now, roughly 80% headed by a single working mom, and it pays about $9,000 per child per year. Vice […]

(ThyBlackMan.com) Ask me which records I’d grab if the house caught fire and I never even have to think. Nineteen seventy two through seventy six. One man at the center of it all, and he flat tore up everything the rest of us figured a record was supposed to be. Nobody since has come close, and I have been waiting a long while. My people kept a radio going on […]

(ThyBlackMan.com) In Remembrance: Carol Denise McNair, Addie Mae Collins, Cynthia Dionne Wesley and Carole Rosamond Robertson. A cardinal tenet of Christianity is that it is imperative for salvation to forgive those that trespass against us. It is one of the more challenging tenets of Christian faith. For some Christians to address that challenge they believe it is best they forget so they can forgive, forgive and forget. If one forgets […]
