(ThyBlackMan.com) Have you ever wanted to be a part of an exclusive club? You know the kind that offers entrance to members only and turns away the rift raft at the door. Perhaps they have a secret hand shake or a mysterious symbol that only those who are a part of the group know. After all it’s only natural for us to want to belong. We all crave and desire […]

(ThyBlackMan.com) There is always a heated discussion when it comes to the topic of “gatekeeping”. It seems these days that everyone has an opinion about what belongs and what doesn’t, and no one has the right to say otherwise. Gatekeeping could serve a purpose, but it has become a word used solely as a weapon, and it tends to take away the rights of someone to speak to what belongs […]

(ThyBlackMan.com) Remember Shirley Sherrod? Relatively few people do. Ms. Sherrod was hired in 2009 to work for then President Barack Obama’s USDA as its Georgia Director of Rural Development — the first African American ever to hold that position. Several months into Sherrod’s tenure, the late propagandist Andrew Breitbart purposely smeared her by releasing a video of a speech that she had delivered to the NAACP. In a move that […]

(ThyBlackMan.com) On May 22, 1962, speaking to a crowd in Los Angeles, Malcolm X declared that the most disrespected person in America is the Black woman. 62 years later, his words still ring true as we witness the continued disregard for Black women, particularly those in positions of leadership. The recent incident involving Representative Jasmine Crockett being insulted on the floor of the House of Representatives by Marjorie Taylor Greene is just […]

(ThyBlackMan.com) (**)  Hard to respect an action/adventure/sci-fi film when all its flaws are so obvious. The un-special effects in this feeble, futuristic and shallowly written movie (Leo Sardarian, Aron Eli Coleite) are so telltale they would be laughable in a theater. But on a streaming service (Netflix), where mediocre movies are a bit more tolerable, there’s just enough movement and thrills to stop viewers from clicking the remote. But not […]

(ThyBlackMan.com) People often forget that the Bible is not just a spiritual document detailing God’s dealing with humanity through Israel, and introducing Jesus and the Gospels to the world, but also a terrific compendium of historical events that are recorded nowhere else but in the Bible. It is true that other civilisations, other than the Israelites, compiled their own records, but their records did not endure and so are permanently […]

(ThyBlackMan.com) I left Memphis early in the morning one August day with my parents for Morehouse College for my freshman year at age 17. It was after I had attended a party in East Memphis at a hotel. My friends and I partied one last time to “I’m Ready” by Kano, “Funkin’ for Jamacia” by Tom Brown, and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five’s “Freedom.” Songs that I now know […]

(ThyBlackMan.com) After weeks of testimony, the criminal trial of former President Donald Trump is now in the hands of the jury, with the outcome unpredictable. Without cameras in the courtroom, news outlets relied on those attending the trial, many not even attending every day, to “report” whether Trump or the prosecution is “winning.” With some exceptions, the hosts and pundits on outlets like CNN and MSNBC argued both the law […]

(ThyBlackMan.com) It has been four years since the execution of George Floyd at the hands of four uniformed agents of the state in Minneapolis in May, 2020. The cold blood murder of Mr. Floyd unleashed protests throughout the US and around the world. The protests denounced George Floyd’s death, proclaimed that Black lives mattered and called for an end to police criminality and lawlessness. Both the size and intensity of […]
